The ultimate reward

The ultimate reward

‘Blessed are you when men hate you, when they exclude you and insult you and reject your name as evil, because of the Son of Man. Rejoice in that day and leap for joy, because great is your reward in heaven…’ (Lk. 6:22,23 NIV).

With the mention of the words “in heaven” by Jesus, we realise that a time will come when we will no longer be on the earth. A time is coming when everyone will breathe his last here and breathe his next there. He said we will get our rewards in heaven provided we live in a particular way while on the earth.

Everything we do here is noticed and recorded in heaven. That’s why He told us that there is a reward for us if we do the right things. He also said in His words: “And behold, I am coming quickly and My reward is with Me, to give to everyone according to his work” (Rev. 22:12, NKJV).

When you learn that an important person is visiting tomorrow, you start tidying up everywhere. When you learn that your area will be under a lockdown for weeks, you make adequate preparations to buy everything you will need while the lockdown lasts. If we truly realise that our few years on earth determine how and where we spend our eternity, it should change our activities and priorities.

Hear the words of God again: “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive what is due him for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad (II Cor. 5:10, NIV). This is sobering indeed. What are we doing for Christ? What are we enduring for Him? What are we contributing towards the purpose for which Jesus died?

Have you made Jesus your Lord? Have you considered your ways? Do you ask Him to help you live your life the way he wants you to? Are you living for Him? Have you made up your mind to disengage yourself from things that would hinder your reward in heaven? May God’s heavenly reward not elude us. In Jesus name!

Today’s corporate prayer: Lord help me to live with heaven in view. In the mighty name of Jesus!
