When you are rejected

When you are rejected

When these half brothers grew up, they chased Jephthah off the land. “You will not get any of our father’s inheritance,” they said, “for you are the son of a prostitute (Judge 11:2, NLT).

Jephthah was one of the judges of Israel. But before he became one, his half brothers threw him out of his father’s home, telling him that he was a bastard. They probably had seen some qualities in him and were afraid that with the way he was going he might outshine them. They saw him as a threat and so got rid of him. However no sooner had they sent him away than certain enemies began to war against their land.

A people who were clueless on how to handle strong enemies, they realized that the only one that could help them was the same ‘threat’ they sent away. They had to swallow their pride and go to seek his help. He came with them, and together, they defeated all the warring enemies.

Rejection is not a new thing. It happens everywhere and every time. Joseph, too, experienced it. Joseph kept sharing his dreams with his father and brethren; not realizing that it didn’t go down well with his brothers. They rejected him and later sold him off to strangers. We know that in the end they only helped him to become the very star they never wanted him to become.

Dear friends, rejection is not necessarily a negative factor, though that’s what it looks like. More often than not, rejection is an indication that you have outgrown where you are. So you need to get stronger, get busy with your divine assignments and be determined to become all that God has ordained you to be.

You will need to leave the known for the unknown. You will need to walk by faith like the older men of faith. You will need to keep asking for divine grace to be more dutiful, focused and innovative. Right now, you might be the stone which the builders rejected. But you will soon become the chief cornerstone (Psa. 118:22). In Jesus mighty name!

Today’s corporate prayer: O Lord, turn me to your divine burning fire. In the name of Jesus!
