Addressing past wrongs

Addressing past wrongs

if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount (Luke 19:8, NIV).

People can judge if their thoughts and actions are right or wrong. They only choose to ignore their conscience most of the time. When a person keeps ignoring his conscience, it goes from ‘Healthy Mode’ to ‘Sick Mode.’ Have you wondered why people would not do evil in the open but do it secretly? It is because everyone knows when something is evil and unacceptable. When a man has gone deeply into sin and evil, it takes an encounter with God to heal his conscience.

I read the story of a teenager called Bill Sunday who worked as a school janitor. One day he received his salary and went to the bank to cash his twenty-five dollar cheque. Another man had dropped a forty-dollar cheque with the cashier but the cashier mistakenly handed forty-dollar cash to Bill. A friend advised him to keep the extra cash. So he bought a nice suit. However, he later had an encounter with God, surrendered his life to Jesus, and God’s spirit reminded him of the fifteen dollars.

Hear him out: …the Lord seemed to touch me on the back and say: Bill, you owe…fifteen dollars with interest. I said: Lord, the bank doesn’t know… and the Lord said: I know it”. So I struggled along for years, probably like some of you… and every time I got down to pray the Lord would say, Fifteen dollars with interest… So years afterwards I sent that money back, enclosed a cheque, wrote a letter and acknowledged it. I have the peace of God from that day to this…’

Friend, correcting a wrong of the past may be very inconvenient, but it’s important to correct past wrongs. Besides, the peace and joy it brings are indescribable. However, if it could implicate others, God’s face and wise counsel must be sought so as not to complicate a problem in a bid to resolve it. May God perfect everything that concerns our past. In Jesus name!

Today’s corporate prayer: O Lord, help me to correct my past wrongs. In the name of Jesus!
