Almost a Christian

Almost a ChristianAlmost a Christian

Acts 26:28 “Then Agrippa said unto Paul, Almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian.”

There was a scribe who came to ask our Lord a question. And when Christ answered him, the man said, “well Master, thou hast said the truth: for there is one God; and there is none other but he: and to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbor as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.” And when our Lord saw that he answered discreetly, he said unto him, “Thou art not far from the kingdom of God.”

We take a lesson from here. Where do you stand today? Are you a Christian, or you are almost a Christian? Think about being almost a Christian.

You know all the sound doctrines of the bible, regular in church activities, a cheerful giver, friendly to all men, salute not only his brethren, nor love only his neighbor; a good Samaritan, a moralist, enjoys hearing the word of God, decent in dressing, fair in words, reads the bible, sings Christian songs and gospel edifying, avoids any thing unclean, extenuate too much closeness to the opposite, and calm. Yet in all these, if this man has no true, living, saving faith in Christ, he is altogether but a hypocrite.

Who then is a Christian?

  • A Christian is one who has put his faith in Christ and trusts in the atoning sacrifice of Christ for salvation.
  • A Christian is one who has God as his heavenly Father through Christ.
  • A Christian is one who lives in obedience to every jot, and tittle of the written word of God.
  • A Christian is one who sinneth not. Tho’ he hath sinned, but now in Christ, sinneth not.
  • A Christian is one who is a disciple and follower of his Lord: Jesus Christ.
  • A Christian is one who is crucified with Christ, nevertheless he live, yet not he, but Christ now liveth in him: and the life which he now live in the flesh, he lives by the faith of the Son of God, who loved him and gave himself for him.
  •  A Christian is one who loves God with all his heart, and can say, “Lord, thou knowest that I love thee.”
  • A Christian is one who loves his neighbor as himself.
  • A Christian is one who has his affection set on things above, and not on things in the earth.
  • A Christian is one who has God as his single hope and source of life, and can lift up his hands to heaven and say, “Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee. This is a Christian.

Just like I stated earlier, Jesus said unto him “Thou art not far from the kingdom of God.” Reader, art not thou? then go on: be a real Christian: else it had been better for thee to have been afar off.
