Avoiding life’s ditches

Avoiding life’s ditches

And he spake a parable unto them, Can the blind lead the blind? Shall they not both fall into the ditch? (Luke 6:39, KJV).

Most of us must have seen at least a blind folk before. In my own part of the world, many blind men are often seen being led by their guides. A blind man must trust his guide. Why does he need to trust his guide? The guide can see what he cannot see. At times they need to hurry up, probably because they are crossing to the other side of a road. At other times they have to slow down for cars to clear off the road before they can move.

When it comes to handling the issues of life, making the right decisions and understanding what the future holds, we are somewhat blind. We must depend on the Holy Spirit to guide us. Sometimes it might not be too clear what God is doing or why we have to remain at a particular point for a longer time than we deem usual. But we must trust Him to get His best for us.

In the light of today’s message, to become blind is to let go of your own reasoning and judgments. To become blind is to trust whatever God tells you about a particular matter. To become blind is to know that God has the best of your interest at heart. To become blind is to believe what God tells you above the logical reasoning of men. Until we come to this point, we still struggle with God’s decisions and instructions. But when we get there, we enjoy God’s presence and peace in a way that surpasses human understanding.

Jesus is the light of this world. He cannot lead anyone into darkness. And we should walk in the light because He is in the light (I Jn. 1:7). As God’s children, we have been called out of darkness into His marvelous light (I Pt. 2:9). We cannot afford to walk in darkness again because we are the children of light (I Thes. 5:5). Trust and faith in God opens our spiritual eyes and dispels all forms of spiritual darkness.

To follow our reasoning, judgments or understanding is an illusion and it’s tantamount to when the blind is leading the blind. The end result is trouble. The word of God counsels us: ‘Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths (Prov. 3:5,6 NKJV). May we receive the grace to trust Him more and more. In Jesus name!

Today’s corporate prayer: O Lord, deliver me from my reasonings. In the mighty name of Jesus!
