Ever ready

Ever ready

‘…we wrestle not against flesh and blood…’ (Eph. 6:12 KJV).

Many of us agree that the Bible is God’s word. They cherish fascinating scriptural events but believe that such events were only meant for those old Bible days. They never expect to see the reality of God’s word in their lives. They simply don’t believe that life is more than the physical; and that the spiritual dictates most of what we see in the physical realm. But God’s word actually proves that both the physical and the spiritual worlds are real.

After Jesus had fasted for forty days, the devil came tempting Him. It was a spiritual warfare. The experience of Jesus with the devil serves as an example to us of what may happen to anyone who decides to follow God’s leading in life at all costs. That warfare in the wilderness was not waged with bullets, bombs, or physical fight. It was a warfare of words backed up by spiritual powers. Jesus firmly used the Word to defeat the foe.

In the thirteenth chapter of Luke, we also read about a woman’s healing. This woman had been bent for eighteen years. She couldn’t stand up straight like others. After Jesus healed her, some folks were angry that her healing took place on a Sabbath day, and here was Jesus’ response: “Wasn’t it necessary for me, even on the Sabbath day, to free this dear woman from the bondage in which Satan has held her for eighteen years?”

To the physical or natural eyes, she was a sick woman whose backbone had been badly affected. But Jesus saw beyond that. He revealed that it was the devil’s chain, invisible to the natural eyes, that bound her for eighteen years! Jesus had to deal with the devil who was at the root of this wickedness.

A well-informed Christian knows that spiritual warfare is not an option. Till now, the devil and his demons still walk about like hungry lions, seeking whom they may devour (I Pt. 5:8). Believe it or not, it’s not up to you to choose to be involved in this battle or not. As long as the devil and his agents are here, spiritual battle is a reality we all must face. That’s why the Bible says, ‘Be strong in the Lord, and in the power of His might (Eph. 6:10). May we always crave divine strength so as to be constantly battle-ready. In Jesus’ name!

Today’s corporate prayer: O Lord, help me to constantly be on fire for you. In the mighty name of Jesus!
