The greatest task

The greatest task

‘Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations…’ (Matt. 28:19 NLT).

The gospel is the greatest task of Christians. We are supposed to be gospellers, standing between God and the lost. In preaching the gospel we need the ingredients of prayer, faith, love, hope, and divine guidance. To take the gospel to the lost, we must have faith in God and believe that sinners’ hearts are controlled by Him. Then, the love of God compels us to be compassionate in our approach as we take the message to them.

That’s not all. We should expect a positive response to our message. Some preachers believe that certain sinners are beyond the reach of God. That’s not true. The power in God’s word can and does transform even the worst of men. The gospel should be presented with simplicity so that our hearers can understand what salvation really means.

Our message should center on man’s fall and Christ’s sacrifice. Our hearers should be made to know that Christ lived a life without blemish but He died so that we can be saved. We should not dwell so much on the fallen nature of man. We should dwell more on the fact that Jesus is the only solution to man’s sins and the only way of salvation.

Some people feel sorry about their sins. They even condemn themselves in their minds. They acknowledge that they are corrupt and wicked. Some of them even shed tears. But all these things are not enough to save a man. God’s love, mercy and gift of eternal life must be mentioned to the sinner. That’s when the gospel is complete. No sinner should be asked to start behaving well or to become a new person. They cannot do so themselves.

A sinner can only be truly saved by being sorry for his sins, forsaking them, and believing that the death and resurrection of Jesus are what qualifies him for salvation. At such, as he invites Jesus into his life, he experiences God’s forgiveness and salvation. This salvation pardons him from deserved punishment and removes his name from the register of hell. So, dear Christians, keep spreading the good news. And dear sinner, come to Him today.

Today’s corporate prayer: We command the freedom of lost souls from the dominion of the devil. In the mighty name of Jesus!
