Invited into rest

Invited into rest

Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest (Matt. 11:28, KJV).

Here is an open invitation from Jesus to all that labour and are heavily burdened. If you have been toiling or carrying a heavy load you’d be weary and worn out by now. You really need rest. And Jesus promised to give it to you if you make up your mind to come to Him today.

These days, people are under different heavy loads. “Past mistakes” is the heavy load some people are carrying. Others are weighed down by the load of previous disappointments. As for some, their heavy load is “bitterness”. Some are under the condemnation of past atrocities. Sickness is some folks’ burden; stagnancy is some peoples’ trouble and it is financial lack for others.

Jesus is aware of our past and present circumstances and He wants to help us in spite of them. David and Moses were murderers. Saul who later became Paul was practically fighting God; but they all received God’s help when they surrendered to God. Rahab was a prostitute; she made herself available for God’s use and God helped her too. What about the disciples of Jesus. Most of them were what the society would consider as nobodies. They were not learned in scriptural knowledge; yet God helped them and turned their lives around for good.

God loves and wants you, your past notwithstanding. If He forgave Moses and Paul, He’s ready to forgive you your past sins too. He can deliver you from addiction to hard drugs and substances. He can rebuild your shattered esteem. He can take away the heavy burdens and guilt from your heart. He can make you absolutely free indeed. He said if you come to Him, He’ll set you free and you’ll be free indeed! (John 8:32).

You might have used human knowledge, psychology or satanic means to get freedom, but that kind of ‘freedom’ cannot set free. Jesus said, “If only you can come to me, and allow me to be your Lord, I will give you rest.” May you find Him before it’s too late.

Today’s corporate prayer: O Lord, inspite of my present circumstances, I come to you today. Receive me, help me and give me true rest. In Jesus mighty name!
