More Love to Thee O Christ

More Love to Thee O Christ

John 21:15 “So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, “lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Ye, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.”

After the resurrection of our Lord, he appeared to the disciples at the sea of Tiberias, and when they had dined, our Lord said to Peter, using the same appellation Christ had given him, when he made that glorious confession (Mathew 16:16,) the remembrance of which might make Peter more deeply sensible of his late denial of him whom he had so confessed. And this, our Lord repeated to him thrice, who had denied him thrice. But that question doesn’t go only to Peter, but to all true believers of Christ in all ages; ‘lovest thou me more than these?”

More so, we saw how Peter after thence, manifested so great love of Christ, that he had to say, “We ought to obey God rather than men.” Brothers and sisters, lovest thou Christ more than money? Lovest thou Christ more than certificate? Lovest thou Christ more than family members and relatives? Lovest thou Christ more than marriage? Lovest thou Christ more than pleasures and materialism? Lovest thou Christ more than all?

In the transpose, lovest thou Christ in persecution? Lovest thou Christ even in the valley and shadow of death? Lovest thou Christ in cruel trials? Lovest thou Christ despite mockery, criticism, hatred, conspiracy, reproach, poverty, hardship, sickness, shame, and adversity? Lovest thou Christ in all circumstances and exigencies of life?

The Apostle Paul writes, “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Thou Christian, bind thy self with the cord of God’s love, and so love Him with all thy heart, with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, till thou can say, “Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee.” An Anglican bishop of the last century wrote, “I hope when I come to die, I shall not have to say, I wish I had love Christ more.”
Yea, in all these, LORD, Thou knowest that I love thee.

More love to Thee, O Christ, More love to Thee! Hear Thou the prayer I make on bended knees; This is my earnest plea: More love, O Christ, to Thee; More love to Thee, More love to Thee!
