Watching or sleeping?

Watching or sleeping?

“Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation…” (Mathew 26:41, KJV)

We are still revolving around the subject of prayer. When we lose the power of prayer, we become too dull to hear the Holy Spirit or carry out spiritual exercises effectively. To develop sharp sensitivity to the frequency of the Holy Spirit, we need to continually engage in what Jesus termed ‘watch and pray’.

A woman was awakened (in the middle of the night) by a burden to pray for her husband. Though she couldn’t figure out the details, she ‘knew’ it was about her husband and a pending danger. But she allowed tiredness and negligence to prevail and went back to sleep.

The burden came again the second, third and even fourth times, getting stronger and stronger each time. But she was overpowered by the power of the bed. Unfortunately she ended up not praying. She dozed off completely!

True to that ‘inward knowledge’, something sad had happened by the time it was dawn. Shortly after she went to sleep, her husband was attacked at his workplace by a gang of hoodlums. And they murdered him in cold blood. What a tragedy! One could only imagine her sorrow thereafter. With a heart full of grief and regret, she kept muttering to herself and everyone around: ‘I killed my husband…. I killed my husband…’

It’s a really serious one. And a few of us could have had some experiences along this line. Hmm… let’s continue to trust God to deliver us from all evils. But then, we must not be negligent in the place of watching and praying! I pray, may the Lord heal every wounded prayer life. In Jesus mighty name!

Today’s corporate prayer: We decree total paralysis upon all satanic distractions and weaknesses that are killing our prayer lives. In Jesus mighty name!
