Our Hero’s Might

Before my deep incursion into this piece I would want to start with question. Who is a hero? And what is actually our hero’s might in this context? A hero in the perception of the world could mean a conqueror at war or any challenge of life.

There are heroes who conquered nations, set captives free and excelled in every field of their life endeavour and clinched the world’s honour of a hero, but by God’s assessment and judgment he’s not. Why? Because he lacks character.

Samson could be a good example of this. To the eyes of the world and Israel he was a hero for his bravery and heroic act in the deliverance of his people from slavery and bondage. But to God he’s not, even though he made it at last because he lacked character.

What is character?

Character is a personal principle of living a disciplined and true standard life of God that believes and stand on a sound, healthy and good moral values of life that is void of offence, ridicule and reproach by man and God. Daniel is a good example of this, where his detractors could not finger or find any FAULT on him. That is a good example of a hero.

Those who combine physical might of bravery with discipline, truth, good life and love to sacrifice for the good and joy of others, are the people God sees as heroes. Do you call soldiers who went to war to steal and rape women while their wives are at home heroes, even though they won? No! They are not heroes by God’s standard. They are not disciplined. They lacked character!

What is our heroes might?

Our heroes might are DISCIPLINE, LOVE AND TRUTH. Those who did not use only the power of the flesh and strength of their physical might to conquer the world and set their people free: but joined physical might with discipline, love, truth, godly character, uprightness and personal sacrifice of life to obtain victory for their people. These are the people that are called the true heroes.

Jesus is the perfect example of this. He came to the world that we might be saved. Suffered that we might be glorified. Died that we might live. Became weak that we might be strong. Poor that we might be rich. Wounded that we might be healed. Crucified that we might be pardoned. Cursed that we might be blessed. Went to hell that we might go to heaven.

And yes, rose from the dead that we might attain a better resurrection! Gave us the Holy Communion that we might partake in His divine nature. Gave us the Great Commission that we might be called His disciples. Gave us the ordinance of Water Baptism that we might be new creatures. Gave us His word that we might be holy.

Gave us the Holy Ghost that we might be comforted, guided and strong. And ascended into heaven that He might receive us unto Himself that where He is there we might be also. This is what a true and real hero is. This is why Jesus cannot change. He cannot lie! He cannot fail! He remains the same forever. He is unchangeable!

A man went out one day, before he returned, there was a fire outbreak in his house. A message was sent to him that there has been a fire outbreak in his house and his wife and children were trapped inside.

Neighbours had tried to rescue them but it was impossible. Rather the fire was escalating terribly. The man left his place of work and rushed home, but before he arrived, the fire had covered everywhere. When he realized his family was still trapped in the fire, he defiled the inferno and went in and was able to rescue them.

When he came out, he learnt that there was another family trapped in the next apartment. He quickly dashed in again and brought them out. However, he could not make it out this time, he died. This is what is called a hero. One who sacrificed his life for others to live. There is no greater love than this, that a friend gave his life that his friends may live.

This is what Jesus did for the whole world. That is why we worship Him. That is why we honor Him. That is why we adore Him. That is why we serve Him. That is why we call Him Lord. And yes, that is why He’s our God. The world’s everlasting HERO!
