Practical scriptural help for holiness

Practical scriptural help for holinessPractical scriptural help for holiness

1 Corinthians 9:27 “But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a cast away.”

I praise the LORD for your salvation in Christ. And as the grace of God sustains you in your journey toward heaven, there are some things you ought to do as you work out your salvation. Jesus said, “if thy eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast if from thee. If thy hand or thy foot offend thee, cut them off.”

Jesus Christ didn’t mean cutting off your hand literally, like some think, no! He was saying, is there anything/anybody that is so dear to you, and is dragging you to the pit of sin and destruction, cut off your relationship with that person or thing that thing that will drag you to hell.

God’s Admonition to Us

The LORD is admonishing us to hate evil, shun evil, be separated from evil, and be kept away from all forms of evil, in order to preserve and conserve our holiness unto God. Christ also said, “Whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.” What Christ was saying is, whoso perpetually gazes at an object of temptation until your mind, your thought, your heart is inflame and excited by uncleaness, has committed a sin.

Herein, Apostle Paul, writing by the Holy Ghost, admonishes us to bring our body (the whole members) under control. Not fashioning ourselves according to our former lust; but as he which hath called us is holy, so let us be holy in all manner of conversation.

We read about how Enoch walked with the LORD, by the grace of God. We too can strive by God’s grace to walk with the LORD as we aim to conserve and maintain the holiness and live sanctified lives.

What does it mean to walk with God?

To work with God is to set God always before us, and to act as those that are always under his eye. It is to live a life of communion with God, both in ordinances and providences. It is to make God’s word our rule, and his end our glory, in all our actions. It is to make our constant care and endeavor in everything pleasing to God, and in nothing to offend him. It is simply to comply with his will, to concur with his designs, and to be workers together with him.

And I pray, as we heed to this scriptural help to persevere in this walk in holiness, God will give us sufficient grace, and we shall remain holy unto him till the end of time.
