Praying the Bible way
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God (Philipians 4:6, NKJV).
No man can be independent of God. No man can meet all his own needs. Only God can meet all the needs of man. That’s why we are all dependent on God, hence, the need to constantly direct our requests to him.
The proud man feels too big to pray. The foolish man feels too busy to pray. When you are too busy to pray, nothing you are doing will help you. The weak man feels too tired to pray. The disoriented man feels too discouraged to pray. When you go on in life for days, weeks and months without a solid praying relationship with God, it is tantamount to pride. Such an action depicts that you don’t need God and you can run your life without Him.
Some people simply do the opposite of what the word of God says in our Bible text of today. They don’t make their requests known to God but to a man. They believe somebody somewhere is the answer to their troubles. They don’t pray about anything but complain and worry about everything. So, thanksgiving does not even come to them. Such people lack spiritual perspective. So they constantly see problems instead of solution. They see impossibility instead of possibilities. And because of their warped viewpoint, they see God as partial and hate to thank him for anything.
Friend, the antidote to worry and discouragement are prayer and thanksgiving. Always make your requests known to God. I pray, may our prayer life receive fresh fire.
