Progressing in Holiness

Progressing in Holiness

2 Corinthians 7:1 “Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.”

The Condition for Holiness

There is a condition as we aim to continue and persevere in holiness. We can’t remain static, and the scripture doesn’t admonish us to remain at the same level we have attained but to press unto sanctification by his grace. Which helps us take heed in order to abstain from all appearances of evil.

Hence, we should be careful of little foxes that spoil the vine. Watching with all carefulness and sobriety as we see the day approaching, for now is our salvation nearer than when we first believed.

But we have an enemy, the accuser of the brethren. As the devil sees that we are making progress in holiness, he will throw some darts to make us dash our foot against a stone. And he devices crooked means to achieve that.

Remember when Balak the king of Moab tried to use Balaam to curse the children of Israel, he couldn’t because God was with them. Then Balaam who because of the reward of unrighteousness advised him to send the women and daughters of Moab to the Israelites and made them sin against God, and God was angry with them.

Satan is relentless on the fight to bring down determined pilgrims who are journeying in the highway of holiness, to fall from their steadfastness and consecration. But they that seek a country whose foundation and maker is God, are watchful, sober, prayerful and bible saturated so as to be fully guarded as not to be accused when the prince of this world cometh to find somewhat against them.

We are called to holiness, let us therefore so run to attain that for which also we are apprehended of by Christ Jesus, looking unto him as the author and finisher of our faith.

God has formed us for himself that we should show forth his praise. Thus, we are obligated to remain committed that we might finish our course with joy, and boldly say on that final day, “by the grace of God, I have fought a good fight of faith.”

Herein is our desire, that as we progress to attain holiness, let’s not forget that God is no respecter of persons. If we derail from holiness, purity of heart, the whiteness of the soul, and the peace toward all men, we may not see God.
