Sons and daughters

Sons and daughters

But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name (John 1:12, NKJV).

Imagine a 3 or 4-year old boy watching an interesting cartoon on the TV. Then, his parents change the channel just because they want to watch another programme. I leave the rest of the story to your imagination. Of course the conclusion is that there may be no peace until both parents allow their son to finish watching his favourite programme. How funny but real!

Now let’s talk about the little boy. How much does he earn monthly? Does he pay electricity bills? Did he buy the TV? Does he provide for the family? Can he fully take care of himself? The answer to these questions is obviously “no”.

But then, how come he has such a level of audacity and authority? The only reason for his effrontery is his status as a son in that family. The son can exercise some authority that a friend, neighbour, visitor, house help or relatives cannot exercise. A son can have access to almost anywhere in the home that others mentioned above may not be privileged to enter. A son or daughter can ask for things from his parents that others dare not ask for. He gets more attention in the home than others. The best foods, drinks, clothes, comfort, education, etc, are always reserved for sons and daughters.

Are you a son or daughter in God’s kingdom? If no, then you might be a visitor, neighbour or stranger in the family of God. God wants to relate with us as His children and by extension, objects of His love and attention. To become one of us, you need to accept His Son Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour. Believing in Him with your whole heart, confessing His Lordship over your life and getting baptized impact you with the gift of eternal life and God’s righteousness; and it’s that simple. Welcome into this great heritage and ensure to desire more of God everyday. Glory be to God!

Today’s corporate prayer: Lord Jesus, I believe in you and confess you as my Saviour. I receive your grace, righteousness and other blessings by faith. Amen.
