Starting from somewhere

…work with your own hands, as we commanded you… (I Thesalonians 4:11, KJV).

Someone wrote: ‘My father didn’t teach me to like work, but to work’. That means you shouldn’t work only because you like to work, but also because you must work. Work is the way to greatness.

God is a worker. Jesus too is a worker. So to be a worker is to be in the class of God. You may say, ‘Yes I want to work but I haven’t got the kind of work I love to do’.

Fine, but don’t forget that the Bible says “Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might…” (Ecclesiastes 9:10, KJV). Notice the word ‘whatsoever’. If you haven’t gotten a big thing to do now, start with something small. Don’t be too big for small things so as not to be too small for big things.

Every honest and Godly work gives us the privilege to serve God and mankind. And that is a great work in itself. Motivate yourself and be joyful in what you are doing now. Stop complaining. God is pleased with the effort you are putting into that menial job or business. What you are doing now has its own advantage if only you realise it.

So do your work joyfully today. Be happy with yourself and deal happily with your clients, customers, colleagues, subordinates, superiors, employers, students, apprentices, employees or superiors as the case may be. God shall bless your relentless efforts. In Jesus name!
