The combination of holiness and wisdom

Mathew 10:16 “Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.”

Here, our Lord was sending forth his disciples, he told them to put on these characters, as expressed in the verse. He further said in the next verse, as regarding to what he said in the preceding verse, although you behave like this, think not that all your innocence and all your wisdom will shield you from persecution. Yet, ye must be holy and wise.

Joseph was a holy and wise man. Think about the manifestation of his wisdom when his brothers came to buy food, and how he eventually used wisdom to reveal himself, having conquered all challenges and circumstances through holiness. Apostle Paul was a holy man, who himself in all his discourse mixed holiness and wisdom together, that Peter even had to commend the wisdom of Paul (2 Peter 3:15.)

In this generation, we need grace to be holy and wise. The combination of holiness and wisdom in this dispensation is very important for every Christian. You have the inward power of biblical holiness; whereby you approve yourself toward God, and you have the wisdom with which you confound the gainsaying of opposers.

Many Christians have been plucked out of the vine, because of the subtle and hard pressure of the world. They couldn’t defy the contradictions of sinners, and being weary in their minds, they fainted and were driven away by the wind of men.

But when you come to the LORD, and the LORD sanctifies you, and fills you with his wisdom, when those servants of the devil on suit come to try your faith and conviction, you’ll be able to withstand them in a polite way, and bring down their subtle pressure. And when sinners try to do things to make you lose your stand, the wisdom of God in you will make you know their intention, and you bring to silence all their expectations by your meek reaction, and holy smile. It’s good to be holy and wise!

You remember Stephen, he was so holy and wise that they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake. We need this Christian graces and virtues. If any lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

In addition, when you are holy and wise, it helps you to walk uprightly and sincerely before God and men. Holiness governs your inward polity, and wisdom directs your outward vicissitudes. I pray that the LORD of sabaoth will give everyone of us true holiness, and godly wisdom to guide and direct us in all the courses of our lives.
