Timely intervention (2)

Timely intervention (2)

‘And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt’ (Matt. 14: 31, NKJV).

The disciples were already thrown off balance in their fight against the heavy waves that threatened to sink their boat. They were still in this state when Jesus came to them, walking on the water. Initially they thought it was a ghost but Jesus told them that He was the one. Then Peter made a request: “Lord if it’s really you, call me to come to you on the water.”

Peter’s request was strange indeed. Here was a mighty body of water, and of all possible requests, the only one he made was to walk on the water like Jesus. What an adventure! Peter must have been awed that his Master was walking on the sea without sinking. He must have wondered what it would feel like to do the same; hence, his request to do so.

Interestingly, Jesus consented to his request. Jumping out of the boat, Peter started strolling on the water. However, after taking several steps, he was overcome by the sight of the terrific waves. And then he lost his faith and courage. He became more conscious of the situation than the presence of the Master. Of course he began to sink. Sadly, such is the situation of many people today who started with their eyes on Jesus but got distracted by their challenging circumstances, and so, are now sinking into the same.

Are you beginning to lose your faith? Do you now doubt your beliefs and believe your doubts? Are you beginning to lose your grip on the same faith that has carried you this far? Are you already sinking into depression and discouragement? Are you beginning to be more concerned about what people say about you than what God says?

You need to do like Peter did. When he discovered that his shallow faith had failed him, he cried, “Lord, save me!” it was a desperate cry indeed to which Jesus responded by reaching out and grabbing his hand before he sank. Don’t allow your spiritual, marital, ministerial, career or financial life to sink before calling for the Lord’s intervention. It might not be your fault that the storms came but it’s your responsibility to cry out for His help. May you receive divine intervention as you call unto the Saviour today. In Jesus name!

Today’s Corporate Prayer: If my faith is too weak to handle my storm, and I am now sinking, help me O Lord. In Christ Jesus mighty name!
