Why We Need to Represent Jesus Well As Christians

As Christians, it’s important we represent Jesus well everywhere we find ourselves. This is because, all our actions and words affect the image other people have of Christ – either for good or bad.

The Responsibility of Representing Jesus Well

It’s a great responsibility that we have to represent Jesus well everywhere we find ourselves, in words and actions.  This seems like a huge and undoable task to accomplish. Considering the fact that we’re putting on flesh, coupled with the fact that we live in a time where Christianity seems to be less trendy.

It’s important to ask us this, “how do you treat a great friend, someone who love and cherish very much?” Very well, right? In most cases you want to hang out and show her or him off. Because you love that friend and you’re proud of him/her. Now, it’s the same with representing Jesus well. If truly one is genuinely born again, then living a life that God will be proud of shouldn’t be a herculean thing to do. Rather, it should be something we live out effortlessly.

For you wondering if it’s possible to represent Jesus well and asking how can you can possibly represent Jesus well. The truth is, every believer is called into the ministry of representing Jesus well everywhere he finds himself.

Hence, it’s our responsibility to act and live responsibly like people who would someday give account to God. Also, at the end of our lives here on earth, there would be stock taking on the number of persons our actions brought into God’s kingdom. As well as, how many our actions prevented from coming in or outrightly chased out of it.

Mark 9:4, “Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him if a great millstone were hung around his neck and he were thrown into the sea.”

Additionally, we’re duty bound to set good examples by doing things according to God’s precepts. God’s word is there to guide us every step of the way as we live as ambassadors of Christ in this world. It’s iimportant to show integrity, seriousness and soundness of speech that would almost be impossible to condemn in everything we do.

Some of What We Are Called to Do As Part of Representing Jesus Well As Christians

  • We are called to love unconditionally: One peculiar characteristic that we possess as Christians, is our ability to love people. Those who have hurt or offended us. We are to forgive and love them inspite of their wrong doings. And loving people is one effective way of winning over those who don’t believe in Jesus nor share our faith.
  • Render Help if You Have the Capacity to Do So: Every believer by default, is called into the ministry of helping even when it’s not very convenient to do so. Consequently, God expects us to go out of our way to help anyone who crosses our path; who are in dire need of one form of assistance or the other.

James 4:17 says, “If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them.”

In sum, Jesus is all goodness and it’s our responsibility to make Him look good in the eyes of the world. Hence, we should never do otherwise for our own sakes and especially because of those our actions could mislead. If Jesus were physically here on earth in His resurrected person, exuding all goodness, purity and love, no one would resist loving and obeying Him completely.

But He is not here in person – we are! The Bible teaches that Jesus is the head of the church and the church is Jesus’ body in the world. Therefore, as the world sees the church, so it sees Jesus. There is no place for careless living in the life of a Christian hence, I urge you to live like one who calls on the name of the Lord.
