‘…be vigilant and cautious at all times; for that enemy of yours, the devil, roams around like a lion…seeking someone to seize upon and devour(I Peter 5:8, AMP).

Everyone loves to rest. In fact God wants us to have rest. But that rest doesn’t give room for carelessness or spiritual slumber. Why do we need to be vigilant? It’s because of the devil’s wickedness. The Bible calls the devil YOUR enemy. That means he’s my enemy and yours, too. What’s the enemy out to do? He’s looking for someone to prey upon and devour! If a lion physically roams around a vicinity, everyone around there takes their safety seriously.

Students go on holidays. Office workers get annual leave. Business owners also go on vacation. A break allows people to take some time off for rest. However, on the contrary, taking a vacation in your spiritual walk can be highly dangerous indeed. The devil, the enemy, doesn’t go for any break at all. From day to day, week to week, month to month and hour to hour, he and his emissaries are always seeking for opportunities to steal, kill and destroy (John 10:10).

Sadly, many of us erroneously believe that we could take a break in our walk in the spirit so that we can gratify the flesh. And the devil has always seized this opportunity to inflict seen and yet-to-be-seen damages into so many lives, families and businesses. Some of us who took a spiritual break can testify to the havocs it caused. When, instead of praying, a Christian is playing; when instead of making out time to study and be on fire for God, a person fails to create quality time to grow in the Lord; when instead of paying attention to spiritual warnings a person continues to live in sin and be spiritually lukewarm; he may soon be devoured by the evil lion.

The Bible taught us what to do about this lion. It said to be vigilant at all times. We need to realize that we must at no time give room to this enemy. Jesus said to watch and pray. The Bible also says we should resist him, standing firm in the faith… (I Peter 5:9). It’s our duty to resist the devil each time he comes. And since he takes no break, we will have to continually resist him. It’s a life-long calling into the ministry of resisting his every move. If we want to be untouched by the devil henceforth, we have to learn to be vigilant at all times. May we receive the grace for this. In Jesus name!

Today’s Corporate Prayer: I shall not fear. I receive the strength to resist the devil. In Jesus name!
