Outflow from within
A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks (Luke 6:45, NKJV).
If you want to know what is in a man’s heart, just listen to what his mouth says. The heart and the mouth are so connected that sooner or later the mouth betrays the heart. That is why it is said that what you say says something about you. A person cannot use his mouth to spread lies, gossip, bear false witness, speak dirty things, deceive, run down others and claim to have a good heart. These are the corrupt fruits of a spiritually sick heart. A good heart is known by the kind, pleasant, good, honest and uplifting words coming out of its bearer.
Before the heart can produce good fruits, it has to be reconciled with God. Only a heart that is controlled by the Spirit of God can overcome wrong thoughts. You need to be yielded to the Holy Spirit so that he can fill your heart with His light and dispel the dark contents of ungodliness. A lot of people who don’t like saying the wrong things keep feeding their minds with negative things. How on earth can they achieve their aim? If you get your inspiration from the mundane things of this world or the ungodly wisdom of unregenerated men; then, is it a wonder that your mouth speaks from the abundance of the profanities resident in your heart?
Do you make effort to study God’s word regularly? What kind of things do you occupy yourself with? Are you addicted to watching worldly and unedifying contents? Have you become a slave, so to say, to your mobile phone? What motivates your actions? What inspires your words? Do you guard the gate of your heart well? Some people cannot help talking defeat, failure, lack, despair, sickness, disappointment or backwardness because those are the things they feed their hearts with. Things can only change when we start feeding the spirit man with God’s words qualitatively and quantitatively. Seriously, the heart of the matter is the matter of the heart.
Today’s Corporate Prayer: O Lord, help me to stop feeding my heart with poisons. In Jesus mighty name!
