Preach the word

Preach the word

When the…disciples returned, they joyfully reported to him, “Lord, even the demons obey us when we use your name! (Luke 10:17, NLT).

The disciples had just returned from an evangelistic outreach. They had been sent by Jesus to preach and to heal the sick. They were so thrilled that they could not hide their excitement from the Master. He told them that it had to be so because already, “I have given you authority over all the power of the enemy and you can walk among snakes and scorpions and crush them. Nothing will injure you” (Lk. 10:19, NLT).

Afterwards Jesus was filled with the joy of the Holy Spirit for the success of the disciples’ outreach. He prayed: “O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, thank you for hiding the truth from those who think themselves so wise and clever, and for revealing it to the childlike…” (Lk. 10:21, NLT). When we take God’s word to the world, it brings joy to the heart of the Lord. The major reason why God is not happy with some people is their disobedience to His commandment that they should do His work and preach His word.

God spoke to Ezekiel: “If I announce that some wicked people are sure to die and you fail to warn them about changing their ways, then they will die in their sins, but I will hold you responsible for their deaths. But if you warn them to repent and they don’t repent, they will die in their sins, but you will not be held responsible… I take no pleasure in the death of wicked people. I only want them to turn from their wicked ways so they can live. Turn! Turn from your wickedness…why should you die?”

That has said it all. Christians should preach and sinners should turn from their wickedness. Wherever we belong to in these two categories, may God help our determination to take heed to the solemn warnings. In Jesus name!

Today’s corporate prayer: O Lord, give me the grace to be a soul winner. In the name of Jesus!
