This Book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous and then you will have good success (Joshua 1:8, NKJV).

What are we expected to do with God’s word? The first thing to do with the Bible is to read it. Some people have Bibles they hardly read. Having the Bible should not be just for the fun of it. We need to create time to read it. Waking up earlier or sleeping later than usual might be a good way to start creating time for God’s word.

Reading the Bible is not enough. We must ponder on what we read and make efforts to constantly fix our minds on the same. This opens us up for God’s touch and divine transformation. The more we meditate on God’s word, the more the power of God takes root in our lives. We must, as a matter of duty, memorize some key verses in God’s word which apply to our deep areas of need. Memorizing the Bible is crucial especially in emergency situations where you don’t have the luxury of time to start searching through its pages.

Our prayers get more effective when they align with God’s word and will. So when you pray, pray God’s word. Use it to confront unwanted situations around you. Declare it by faith. Keep claiming whatever God says is yours. Proclaim your victory over sin, sickness and Satan. Do you have at least five Bible verses for what you’ve been asking God for? Without establishing that the word of God is in support of what you are praying for, you may not be able to pray with certainty and adequate faith.

It is important not to treat the Bible like any other book. We were meant to understand and obey it. The Bible is God speaking to us. One of the reasons God gave us His word to us is so that we can succeed and prosper. In Joshua 1:8 the Bible tells us that if we are careful to do everything written in God’s word, we will be prosperous and successful. If God doesn’t want us to prosper He wouldn’t have shown us how to.

The way we take God’s word matters if we ever want to be all that He made us to be. May God help our determination and readiness to pay attention to His word. In Jesus name!

Today’s corporate prayer: Henceforth, I resolve to regularly feed well on the word of God. Help me Lord to do so. In Jesus mighty name!
