It is dangerous to taste

It is dangerous to taste It is dangerous to taste

For those who enjoy suya (barbecue) a lot, have you ever observed that each time the seller gives you one tiny piece for tasting, you would usually develop the craving to consume the entire meat in his stock, especially when it’s really very delicious.

Now let’s relate this to our Christian faith. It’s very common to hear Christians, especially the young Christians say things along these lines when they’re faced with temptation, “let me just do it, I will repent later”, from the above illustration earlier given, you see you desired eating everything after tasting. Remember it started with just tasting. You may say, “I will repent later” but do you know that most times it doesn’t work out that way? The devil ends up making you comfortable in that sinful state (tasting state) and leaves you fogged.

Has it occurred to you that you may never have the opportunity to actually repent and return to Jesus. Do you remember Samson? He wanted to taste, he wanted to know how getting into a relationship with a strange woman would be like. Even after God had told his people not to get married to strangers. That was how his destiny was truncated, he didn’t make it back alive, he died with his adversaries. What a pity!

You may say “but I’ve seen people that came back alive after tasting now.” Do you know that you may return but you would have been defiled. You may return from that tasting (sin) empty, with none of your God given virtues left. You may return without your God given destiny/purpose. You may lose your destiny in the tasting process! Do you remember Dinah only wanted to see the daughters of the land, but what happened? She came back defiled.

Have you ever wondered what would have happened if Joseph had said ” let me taste, I will repent later” when potipher’s wife asked him to lie with her?

  • What would have happened to his dreams?
  • What do you think would have happened to his God given purpose?

You become vulnerable to destruction when you taste the world after you have supposedly given your life to Jesus.

The truth remains that, the devil isn’t happy with your destiny. Thus, do you think he will just let you go without a fight after willingly becoming his prey?

  • You have to choose to be dogged if you value your destiny.
  • Do not be like the dog who always likes to taste the same rubbish it vomited. Meaning, please don’t take your life back after you’ve given it to Jesus.

Sometimes, the Christian race may seem jagged. But we must remain dogged in our walk with God because our goal is the finish line (heaven) and nothing is worth looking back for.

Ultimately, I’ve made up my mind by God’s grace to uphold chastity and not to taste the world. What is your stand?
