Flee Sodom and never return

Genesis 19:17 “And it came to pass, when they had brought them forth abroad, that he said, Escape for thy life; look not behind, neither stay thou in all the plain; escape to the mountain, lest thou be consumed.”

Here was the angel of the LORD instructing Lot, his wife, and two daughters, after that they were brought forth, and he warned them to not look behind them. And as they went toward where they were instructed, Lot’s wife looked back. Hay! Lot’s wife, “What hast thou done?” disobeying so great instruction, despising so great grace and mercy? She became a pillar of salt as the consequence of her disobedience.

As believers who through grace are delivered from sinfulness, these commands are given to us. “Return not to sin, for that’s looking back to Sodom. Rest not in the world, for that’s staying in the plain. Instead reach toward Christ and heaven, for that is escaping to the mountain.”

This message is a warning to us. This world (which is a type of SodomSodom) is doomed for destruction, and will soon be on fire. The LORD is warning us to escape for our lives to the cross of Christ, and save ourselves from this on-toward generation. The judgement of God now of a long time lingereth not, and the damnation of this evil world slumbereth not.

Just as our Lord told his disciples concerning Jerusalem and the temple in Matthew 24:28. He said, “For wheresoever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together.” He was saying, Expect not any deliverer of the Jewish nation; for it is devoted to destruction. It is already before God a dead carcase, which the Roman eagles (soldiers) will soon devour. So is the Spirit of the LORD still warning us today, that this world is on its way to suffering the vengeance of eternal fire, and there will be no escape, nor hiding place for all those who desire, seek, pursue, and cherish the love of this world.

Are you still lingering to leave Sodom like Lot who did not make so much haste as the case required? It would have been fatal for him, if the angels had not laid hold on his hand, and brought him forth. Do you still think an angel will come to hold your hand and save you from the impending doom coming upon this world? No, not at all. The trumpet of Jubilee has sounded already, and liberty procured. Flee Sodom! For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men; and wherefore, it is needful for me to write unto you of the common salvation.

Flee sin, flee evil, flee unrighteousness, flee from all earth stains now, while you still can. Once the fire of judgment descends on Sodom, there will be no escape for you. It was mercy that brought those angels to Lot, and it is of great mercy that the judgment still lingereth today for you to flee the city of destruction. Time is short. Flee all uncleanness, and renounce all acts of promiscuity. Make a decision for Christ now, and be saved from the destruction of Sodom.
